Welcome! My mission with this blog is to make it as easy as possible to cook Indian and other “ethnic” food. I love my Indian heritage and am thrilled to be able to share some of it with you. In these days of Ready to Eat Curry and fast food, it saddens me to think we might eventually lose our knowledge of traditional cuisines and forget how to make the most basic dish. Let’s not let this happen with Indian or any other cuisine!
I will attempt to be a true bridge between cultures and provide context for cooking methods and recipes. I hope you will join, learn with me, and teach me. At any time, please feel free to send me your questions and comments. I would love to hear from you!
I decided to close down VeenasMarket.com in 2013 in order to devote all my energy to my nonprofit organization, Project Feast that I started in 2012. Our mission is to empower refugee and immigrant cooks. We achieve this through training home cooks in commercial kitchen skills in order to give them access to jobs in the food industry. We also provide a platform for the broader community here in Seattle to interact with the various immigrants in this area through food. Our catering program gives our participants hands-on experience and gives hungry Seattleites access to unique cuisines such as Iraqi and Burmese. Our cooking classes provide everyone a fantastic opportunity to meet refugee and immigrant cooks and learn directly from them. Please see our website for more information.
